7.9 RectorScale

Let's put together our hands and bow our heads down for the deaths of many in China. Recently a 7.9 rector scale earthquake hit Sichuan province. Many villages and towns such as Wenchuan, Yinxiu, and, Dujiangyan received devastating damages. The damages which occurred in Sichuan were devastating as buildings were all destroyed, roads were completely blocked, and 25,000 are trapped under rubble. Rescuers and citizens gathered together to help rescue those who are buried underground. So far 25,788 are still buried, 64,746 are injured, 14,051 are missing, and sadly approximately 14,463 has died.

As China's Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visited the epicenter of the earthquake, he witnessed many tragic events before his eyes. The events were so devastating he had to request 10,000 Chinese military troops to help clear the rubble and rescue many civilians. He also ordered helicopters to be flown into the area to supply everyone with medical supplies and ration. However the earthquake gave such an impact on the province of Sichuan many vehicles were not able to pass through the villages. Instead everyone used their bare hands to dig through the rubble and search for survivors.
Events worsened as the weather during the rescues were poor and rained for a week. With this effect hampering the rescue mission, many were having a difficulty trying to dig through the rubble. Another important matter is the dam which was built near the city Dujiangyan was in danger of collapsing. If this dam were to collapse it would cause more trouble to the clearing of the epicenter area and would devastate the food supply to many people in the province of Sichuan.

This is not a facepalm news... However this is a major event which occurred to my main country. I find it sad how the school did not announce this news in the loud speaker seeing how many of us in the school are Chinese. It took my guidance counselor "who wasted mine and another girl's time by calling us to her office to question us about our family's safety" to make me realize how this school sucks =[.
